
Sustainability and Climate Change placed in the centre of the 1st Act For Earth Summit by CNN Greece
The importance of ensuring sustainability and addressing the consequences of climate change were at the forefront of the 1st Act For Earth Summit by CNN Greece, which successfully took place on Wednesday, June 5, at the Goulandris Museum of Natural History, coinciding with World Environment Day.
The conference was attended by prominent figures, including academics, environmentalists, organizations’ representatives, NGOs and company executives which prioritize a better future for the planet. The live streaming of the conference also enjoyed impressive participation, with a peak of 2.100 concurrent views.
In his greeting at the conference, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilias, focused on the initiatives taken to protect the environment, emphasizing, among other things, that "for many years we lagged in understanding and being able to convey to our societies how important it is to realize that the planet is our home".
Similarly, the Minister of Education, Religions, and Sports, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, emphasized the importance of education in creating environmental awareness, stating that "the education system plays a very significant role in developing sensitivity and interest so that one can intervene in the natural landscape, respect the environment, understand oneself with the multifaceted identity of a citizen, and care about what is happening around one".
The Mayor of Kifisia, Vasilis Xypolytas, highlighted the role of local government in protecting the environment, noting that "the Municipality of Kifisia will become a nationwide model in environmental matters over the next five years".
In its five thematic issues, Climate, Water, Earth, Life, and Recycling, topics of sustainability, environmental protection, and the future of the planet were discussed. Additionally, within the framework of the Summit, CNN Greece and the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, through its Executive Director Dr. Angeliki Kosmopoulou, announced the joint undertaking of actions for the year 2024-2025. This includes the adoption of the particularly burdened free beach of Agios Konstantinos in Oropos, confirming their commitment to environmental protection with actions.
The 1st Act for Earth Summit constitutes the natural evolution of the Act for Earth environmental platform of CNN Greece. The main sponsor of the summit was DEI (Public Power Corporation -PPC), with supporters including DIXAN, the MOTOR OIL group, and Trees4Greece. The Summit was organized by Tsomokos company.
