Solutions and Initiatives for the demographic problem at CNN Insights
With keynote speakers including the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs, Domna Michailidou, the Mayor of Lipsi Fotis Mangos and the Emeritus Professor of the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Piraeus Miltiadis Nektarios, the CNN Insights event titled "Demographic Issue: Solutions and Policies" took place under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs and with the support of Eurolife FFH.
During the event, participants discussed the current state of demographics in Greece, the challenges in addressing the issue, the political initiatives, as well as the personal stories of individuals who serve as inspiring examples.
Minister Domna Michailidou emphasised that the demographic issue has broader social and economic implications, affecting entire generations. She referred to the aging of the population, which puts pressure on the pension system, and to the declining birth rates, which are not always explained by rational criteria.
Mr. Nektarios presented potical proposals to address population aging, while Mr. Mangos described the difficult reality of his homeland, noting that this year there will be no first-grade students in the local primary school. On their side, Popi Kalaitzi, Vice President of BrainReGain and Stefanos Chandakas, President of HOPEgenesis, spoke about initiatives that shape a new demographic future and how they help in improving the situation.
The event took place on Thursday, July 3, at Aegli UPSTAIRS (Zappeion Garden) and is part of the CNN Insights series organised by CNN Greece, highlighting and deeply exploring pressing current issues.
The event was broadcast via live streaming, allowing the general public to watch it in real time.
