Artificial Intelligence in the economy and taxation and the role of Fintech on CNN Insights
The CNN Insights event “AI & Fintech: The GenAI challenge for the financial sector” was held with keynote speakers the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Giorgos Kotsiras, as well as with the participation of the Special Secretary for Artificial Intelligence, Vasilis Karkatzounis and the Governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR), Giorgos Pitsilis.
During the event, speakers highlighted the challenges posed on the financial sector by the use Artificial Intelligence, and in particular Generative AI. Mr. Papastergiou referred to the use of AI in public sector transactions with citizens, placing emphasis on the gov.gr digital assistant and on the infrastructure currently being developed in Greece. Mr. Kotsiras stressed the pivotal importance of digitalisation and artificial intelligence for technology, society and the market, noting that the Ministry’s goal is to improve the daily experience of citizens in their interaction and transactions with the administration and tax authorities.
Mr. Pitsilis underlined that across tax administrations Artificial Intelligence serves as a catalyst and accelerator, contributing to time saving, while also emphasising the importance of the human factor as a safeguard for data accuracy. In the same context, Mr. Karkatzounis spoke about the role of the Special Secretariat, which serves the completion of the puzzle by coordinating, designing and implementing regulatory initiatives related to Artificial Intelligence and data governance.
Senior executives from the country’s largest financial institutions also participated in the discussions, analysing how they are already leveraging Artificial Intelligence and how they are preparing for the arrival of Generative AI across their front-end and back-end systems, applications and products. At the same time, representatives from the payments market addressed the changes GenAI is bringing to the processing of digital transactions, as well as the new trends shaping the fields of payments and embedded finance.
The event took place on Tuesday, October 21, at Aigli UPSTAIRS (Zappeion Garden) and is part of the CNN Insights series by CNN Greece, which highlights and provides in-depth coverage on key current affairs issues. The event was broadcasted live via streaming, enabling the general public to view it in real time.
