“Changing our Lives”: Newsbomb.gr co-organises a conference against obesity with UNICEF
The first conference organized by Newsbomb.gr, titled “Changing our Lives”, took place on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the “Hellenic Cosmos” cultural centre, in co-organisation with UNICEF. The central theme of the event was adult and childhood obesity, with the session coordinated by Health Journalist Fotini Georgiou.
Opening remarks were delivered by Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis and Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki. Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidaki, presented the National Action against Childhood Obesity, as well as the “Prolamvano” (Preventing) programme for adults, which includes free prescription medications and teleconsultations.
In a recorded message, Dr. João Breda, Head of the World Health Organisation in Athens, highlighted Greece’s significant progress in preventing and addressing obesity. UNICEF’s Diplomatic Representative, Ghassan Khalil, emphasised that UNICEF is implementing one of its largest childhood obesity programmes worldwide in Greece, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other organisations, aiming to safeguard the health of every child.
During the discussion that followed, scientists and representatives of various organisations analysed obesity as a chronic disease, stressed the importance of awareness and early intervention, and presented solutions and best practices to improve the country’s health indicators. Notable speakers included G. Chrousos, A. Trikas, G. Rompolas, E. Fragkoulis, E. Georgiou, N. Polyzos, M. Dimopoulou, I. Manios, K. Daloukas, E. Papadopoulou, E. Azas, O. Tsiotsiou, H. Kartasiadis, D. Kereres, K. Triantafyllou, Th. Touma, I. Sergi, and K. Tsiranidou.
Content Creator Alexandros Kopsialis shared his personal experience with binge eating and the conference concluded with an uplifting message from Paralympian and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Antonis Tsapatakis.
The event was held both with physical presence and online via live streaming, with the generous support of the Region of Attica, HYGEIA – member of the HHG Group, Pharmaserv-Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Eifron, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports and the Hellenic Cardiological Society.
