Digital sovereignty in action and Greece on the path towards digital autonomy on CNN Insights
The CNN Insights event titled “Digital Sovereignty in Action – Europe and Greece on the Path towards Digital Autonomy” took place, showcasing keynote speaker Mr. Marcel Suers, Worldwide Private Cloud Portfolio Lead at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and key interventions by Mr. Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos, Secretary General for Information Systems & Digital Governance and Mr. Giannis Mastrogeorgiou, Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning.
As part of the event, leading speakers from the technology and finance sectors mapped out Greece’s path towards digital independence and sovereignty in a time of rapid technological and geopolitical changes.
Mr. Suers addressed the challenges related to global data flows, data localisation laws and cross-border data sharing, emphasising that the first and perhaps most crucial step in this direction is governance and legislation, and adding that “within the next six months” the European Union will initiate the next steps for its cybersecurity framework.
The question of what digital sovereignty means for the Greek public sector was addressed by the participants of the first panel of the event, titled “Digital Sovereignty & the Public Sector”, Mr. Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos and Mr. Giannis Mastrogeorgiou.
Similarly, the second panel focused on digital sovereignty in the private sector, featuring Thanos Falangas, Director of B2B Marketing, CRM & Channel Management at the OTE Group, Spyros Tzamtzis, Group CIO at Alpha Bank, Fotis Panagiotopoulos, Managing Director, Strategy & Consulting Lead at Accenture and Michalis Kassimiotis, CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Greece & Cyprus.
