The new map of Greek Tourism at CNN Insights

CNN Insights event titled “Tourism: The New Map” was held at Aegli Upstairs, featuring keynote speakers including the Regional Governor of Attica Nikos Hardalias, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Greece Matthew Lodge and the Special Advisor to SETE Alexandros Thanos, supported by Attica Region, Athens International Airport and SEAJETS.

Within the framework of the event, representatives of the state, the business community and leading executives from the tourism sector highlighted the opportunities and challenges faced by Greek tourism, as well as the need for its transformation in line with new global conditions.

Mr. Hardalias noted that the question is not whether Greece is performing well, but how it will continue to perform well and more importantly, with what plan, what resilience, what quality and what perspective. He added that “our strategy in the region is clear: we see tourism not only as an activity, but as a key pillar of policy.”

Similarly, Mr. Lodge emphasised that Greece remains a highly attractive and safe destination, with strong international interest and positive booking trends. For his part, Mr. Thanos noted that independent traveller arrivals are at historic highs, while also highlighting a shift toward more frequent but lower-budget travel.

At the same time, investment trends in tourism, the need for quality upgrading in the sector, and challenges related to human resources were presented through three thematic panels featuring executives from the market, academia, and the broader tourism ecosystem.

The event took place on Monday, May 11, at Aigli UPSTAIRS (Zappeion Garden), as part of the CNN Insights series by CNN Greece and was broadcast live via live streaming.
